Finals Day - Sunday 17th September 2017

Launceston Tennis Club's single finals day was held on Sunday 17th September 2017. There was good support for the players from a sizable crowd of spectators who were treated to cream teas.

In the highly anticipated contest men’s final 13 year old Will took on reigning champion Graham. In the first set Will took an early lead hitting several winners off both wings and sending Graham scrambling over the court. Graham however showed his experience by turning the set around by mixing the points up and charging the net to eventually win it 7-5. The second set was also very close, Graham took an early lead and manage to hold out despite heavy pressure from Will to win a record 11th title!

The Men’s plate final between Barry and Adam featured numerous long ralleys with both players keeping the ball in play. Barry took an early 5-1 lead in the first set only for Adam to find some form and first serves to pull it back to 5-4. However after another lengthy game Barry closed out the first set 6-4. The second set followed the same pattern with Barry starting off stronger and Adam mounting a comeback but Barry’s greater consistency told and he won the set 6-3 to win the mens plate. After the match both players were shattered and wondered why they dragged every point out!

Barry Frayn Beat Adam Baker 6-4, 6-3

The junior boy’s final produced an exciting match with several good rally’s and winners. Matt played really well but Will’s class told in the end and he retained his juniors boys title. 6-0 6-1.

Ruth v Charlotte

The ladies plate final was an even contest that produced several good ralleys with both players showing great consistency with their ground strokes. Ruth's experience told in the end as she managed to come out on top and win the ladies plate title.


The Girls final was played under floodlights on a cold February evening, Charlotte Halls beat Issey Thorns 6-2, 6-1
