The Launceston summer open 2022 was held at Launceston tennis club on Thursday the 28th of July. Sadly due to a few withdrawals and late entries the only event to go ahead was the junior boys.
The junior boys event did not disappoint with 12 entries from across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. The event started as a round robin and there were so many close matches with five match play tie breaks before anyone qualified for the semi finals.
The semi finals saw yet another match play tie break featuring Issac Baron (Launceston) and Thomas Harris (Tavistock), both boys gave it there all with Issac hanging in there against an older opponent and forcing the match play tie break. Issac can be very proud of his achievements at the Launceston open as he was one of the youngest competitors and his attitude was amazing and a 10-8 score line in favour of Thomas was a truly heroic effort.
Thomas advanced to the final and after three match play tie breaks a weary looking Thomas could not muster enough energy to stop Dante Milford of Bude claiming the title in straight sets.
Dante was a worthy winner who grew in to the tournament round by round.
Congratulations to all competitor's who we hope to see back at Launceston in the near future.
